108 SUN Salutes, meaning of the #108

I have seen the numbers 1 0 8 together the past couple weeks. I frequently look at the clock, at 1:08 – either AM or PM. I have even started to use the Mala beads I have – 3 bands in total, 2 gifts, other I bought – and I have begun chanting. I feel the vibration of the number 108 with this practice, and in the beginning of this year I completed (without stopping) the 108 salute to the Sun. I have yet to do it this year, for the Summer Solstice as I’ve done in the past, but I may complete the Salute once again, as New Beginnings are forming and being felt within me, as the Autumn enters the Western Hemisphere; out with the old, in with the new. Or, more like, a re-awakening of the TRUTH of being – of being an earth being.

Random tid-bit of the number 108 from Wikipedia:

“108 degrees Fahrenheit is the internal temperature at which the human body ‘s vital organs begin to fail from overheating. The distance of Earth from the Sun is about 108 times the diameter of the Sun (actually closer to 107.51, as per definition of the AU).”

From  YogiApproved.com:

The number 108 is sacred and significant in many ways, appearing in many disciplines from astronomy to yoga:

  • The number 108 appears in ancient, sacred texts. For example, there are 108 Upanishads and 108 Tantras
  • In numerology, 108 equals 9, which symbolizes universal love, eternity and awakening
  • In Ayurveda, there are 108 sacred points on the body
  • In astronomy, the distance between the Sun and Earth is roughly 108 times the Sun’s diameter
  • Mala bead necklaces have 108 beads, which are used to count during meditation

Below is a diagram of the significance of 108 from Gaia.com:

“Sun Salutations are a sequence of yoga poses strung together in a consistent movement, typically found in Vinyasa-style yoga. In Sanskrit, Sun Salutations are referred to as “Surya Namaskar” and were traditionally practiced to usher in the new day, hence the name.

When do people practice 108 Sun Salutations?

“Sun Salutations can be practiced any time and with any frequency. Traditionally, practicing 108 Sun Salutations is reserved for the change of the seasons (ie the Winter and Summer Solstice, and the Spring and Fall Equinox).

Spring and Fall Equinoxes

During an equinox, the day and night are equal lengths. The Spring Equinox represents a time of rebirth and new beginnings, making it a great time to detoxify the body. The Fall Equinox, also called the Autumnal Equinox, offers a time to go within and ground before the onset of winter.

Summer and Winter Solstice

The Summer Solstice is marked as a time of celebration. Many cultures have festivals to celebrate the sun and its life-giving energy. The summer marks a time of everything being in full bloom. The Winter Solstice symbolizes death and rebirth – new beginnings and fresh starts.”

Also, in 108, spiritually 1 = Something 0 = Nothing 8 = everything, infinity

After completing my first 108 Sun Salute, I felt revitalized and a renewed sense of purpose came over me. Halfway through, I felt the internal fire and wanted to stop, but a mantra/affirmation of encouragement from my inner self pushed me through, it then became a moving meditation, and like a rhythmic dance, I was able to complete the last 54 without thought, just movement, and connection to my breath.

Stay tuned. Keep practicing, whichever it is that calls to your heart (Yoga or not), and pay attention to the synchronicities, to the coincidences placed before you by nature.

Peace & Love ❤
